The Rankin Twins moved to Austin, TX 2 years ago after realizing the dream of being performers. April and Amy both attended Texas A&M, and won a Dixie Chicks look alike contest and decided that they wanted to try their hand at the music business. They have that same sort of feel with their own flare on the music.
April studied Ag Development, and Amy studied Marketing while at A&M, and the Marketing degree really shines through as Amy is constantly on the social networking sites such as Twitter. They have been singing since they were young kids, but Amy wrote her first song 3 1/2 years ago.
Since moving to Austin the favorite show has been when they played to a sold out crowd at Gruene Hall with Roger Creager headlining. The Twins are currently in the process of releasing a new album, “Silver Lining”. My current personal favorite song that they have is, “Headaches and Heartbreaks”, but they assure me that it won’t be once the new album is released. They are very excited about this new material, and I can’t wait to hear it.
They hope to soon be selling out venues all over the state, and having the crowd sing along to their tunes, which I’ve heard quite a bit from other artists, that is a big deal. They told me that when they do covers of a song that fans will dance to the music, but when an original comes on they stop. Just the not knowing a song tends to keep people from enjoying the music as much.
The music is great as you will find after looking them up, and it’ll just take some time to get their name out there. Once you hear the tunes, you will be hooked much like I was. They hope to be able to play The Grand Ole Opry within the next 5 years. If they keep going like they have been, I don’t foresee that being an issue.
The Twins are playing all around Austin, and the rest of the state so get out there, see a show, and support the music!! Shows are up in the event calendar.
